which way

  1. Which way? Something I've been struggling with since I left California. I know the answer, but I don't know the first step.

“If one advances confidently in the direction of one's dreams, and endeavors to live the life which one has imagined, one will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” Thoreau
Something in everything you posted speaks to this but I'm having trouble relaxing into it.
    Thanks

  2. tag-i submit that if you know the answer, you also know the first step. taking refuge in apparent confusion is a way of delaying that step.
here's one of the following paragraphs to the pema chodron quote that really got me:

"the buddhist teachings aspire to set us free from this limited way of relating (this is talking about our aversion to impermanence-lw). they encourage us to relax gradually and wholeheartedly into the ordinary and obvious truth of change. acknowledging this truth doesn't mean we're looking on the dark side. what it means is that we begin to understand that we're not the only one who can't keep it together. we no longer believe that there are people who have managed to avoid uncertainty."

every beginning or ending is fraught with uncertainty, and our days are chock full of them! we just pretend not to notice.

    keep me posted, ok?
