a change is gonna come

life's moments are not cheapened by death. just to observe and affirm is good. after all, death waits for all of us. only the value we place on each minute determines the quality of life. if we can embrace that, then no one's life is ruined by death.

  1. That's interesting that you quoted something about death because the instant I saw your first picture, I thought, "hmm, looks like a wedding."

    Change, yes. Oh yes.

What is that bubble-like thing in the middle of the last shot?

    These are incredible photos.

  3. kass-just read your post, are we connected or what?
no, not a wedding. the first 2 shots are of the same peonies in my big pink post of a while ago. the color just faded away as they aged.
and that bubble thing is just that-a soap bubble, slightly decayed. i have some ideas about bubbles.

gabi-yep, now is what we have, there is no anything else.

  4. Well, there is yesterday and tomorrow. Our memories and imagination bring them into the now to enjoy or anticipate. Sam Cooke is God.

  5. Growing up in southern California, I've seen a lot of flowers in my time. My mother and grandmother enjoyed growing them, so I knew many flower names even as a young child. So how did I miss peonies? Are they not grown in the southwest? OK, I just Googled. They like cooler climates. My mother had had surgery and her friend brought a gift of flowers fresh from the farmers' market. Peonies and tuberoses. I was in my 40s and I'd never seen or smelled anything like this bundle of blooms. Thank you for the sensory memory of that.

  8. ah, kirk, would that it were so.

    from the diamond sutra:
Thus shall you think of this fleeting world:
A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream,
A flash of lightning in a summer cloud,
A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream.

  9. Love that morning Dorothy Parker quote: "what fresh hell is this?"
It just makes me laugh...and cry.
