spring-bah, humbug!

let me explain.
spring, or more accurately, the transition from winter to spring, is difficult.

winter, energetically speaking, is a time for deep hibernation, rest, replenishment of our resources. this is what our systems yearn for - to go deep within.

at least, that's what it's supposed to be. in our culture, what it ends up being, due to various religious and secular holidays, is one long, draining party. no rest. no renewal. no attention paid to the rhythms of nature, outside or inside.

then spring shows up. a HUGE push of energy, all
that blooming, propagating, birthing stuff. and we're supposed to do all this on no rest? people get cranky. i once worked in an acupuncture office, and learned a great deal about energy shifts. i can now tell the MINUTE the seasonal energy changes towards spring. (i got yelled at on the phone, bitched out by the ups guy, snapped at by dogs... well, you get the idea.)
and then there's allergies.

so, if you don't like spring, rest assured you are in good company.

summer makes me drowsy,
autumn makes me sing,

winter's pretty lousy,

but i hate spring.

and if you do like it, here:

honest, i didn't know callas came in yellow.

  1. It has felt like a long winter that is stuttering into spring...

  2. APRIL is the cruellest month, breeding
    Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
    Memory and desire, stirring
    Dull roots with spring rain.
    (T. S. Eliot)

    ...and it's still only March.

  3. And Spring arose on the garden fair,
    Like the Spirit of Love felt everywhere;
    And each flower and herb on Earth's dark breast
    rose from the dreams of its wintry rest.
    ~Percy Bysshe Shelley, "The Sensitive Plant"

    and

    Spring is not the best of seasons.
    Cold and flu are two good reasons;
    wind and rain and other sorrow,
    warm today and cold tomorrow.
    ~Author Unknown

    Despite the allergies and the wind I love spring as for me is nature waking up after a long sleep.

    I also didn't know that callas came in yellow! they look awesome

  5. gabi-boy, this one is really bringing out the poetry in everyone! spring is an awakening, and like some folks, it can wake up grouchy!

  6. Spring is a happiness so beautiful, so unique, so unexpected, that I don't know what to do with my heart. Emily Dickinson

    I love spring and I love love love your photos. But some people still piss me off.

  7. I am not poetic in the least and sometimes that intimidates me when I drop into blogs where the poetry is fairly flying. But I do free association beautifully and I am laughing out loud. Your post this morning provides the complete explanation for the angst I suffered a couple of days ago. Weather gone wild, humans out of their minds. It's simply about ENERGY! Thank you [grinning].

  8. kass-yep, that's spring for ya! it's the bitchy season. exhaustion doesn't help either. hope i haven't contributed to the pissedoffedness. (my word, not webster's.)

    limes-it's ALL energy! one of my yoga teachers is a surfer. we used to talk about surfing the waves of energy, internal and external. keep your feet planted on the board, stay present, and ride!

    and btw, your poetry resides in that free association.
